Flamengo and Palmeiras took the field on Tuesday night in the Brazilian Championship, facing Atlético-MG and Grêmio, respectively, in a round that could define the title in favor of the Rubro-Negro. In the week of the Libertadores final, to be played on Saturday in Lima, the two clubs had to deal with the dilemma of managing the fatigue of their key players, but without giving up on the fight for the national title. With the chance to be champions in advance, the Flamengo coach used more starters. With a 1-1 draw, the title was not mathematically secured, but getting closer. Abel Ferreira, the Palmeiras coach, after saying the championship was ‘delivered,’ fielded a team almost entirely composed of reserves and only introduced one or two starters during the second half. As a result, they lost 3-2 and saw the trophy slip away.
