DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Yemen’s Houthi rebels have signaled the cessation of attacks on Israel and shipping in the Red Sea amid a shaky ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. In a letter to Hamas’ Qassam Brigades published recently, the Houthis offered their clearest indication that the attacks have stopped. The letter stated, ‘We are closely monitoring the situation and if the enemy recommences aggression against Gaza, we will resume military operations deep into Israel and reinstate the ban on Israeli navigation in the Red and Arabian Seas.’ While there is no formal acknowledgment from the Houthis that their campaign in the region has halted, the move signifies a potential moment of respite in the conflict.
